Just taking in the scenery on a backcountry road or visiting a village farmer's market will let you know you have arrived where time slows down. This itinerary is designed for Fall, Summer or Spring. Winter trips would include SNOW activities!
Day 1
Arrive at Burlington International airport in northern Vermont and stay at the TopNotch Hotel in Stowe.
Day 2
Day in Stowe - options include: hiking, biking, horseback riding in the mountains, spa treatments, a visit to the Vermont Ski Museum, afternoon tea at the Von Trapp Inn, golf, fishing or just strolling in the quaint village of Stowe.
Day 3
Shelburne Museum - This is a treasured cultural destination. It has been called "One of the Seven Wonders of New England" and also "New England's Smithsonian."
Day 4
Montpelier, Vermont's state capital and museum, with a stop at Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream and Barre's Granite Quarries. Stay at Twin Farms Inn in Barnard.
Days 5
Woodstock is called "the prettiest town in America" and offers sights like the Rockefeller Mansion, Billings Farm and Museum, and for bird lovers: the internationally known Vermont Institute of Natural Science Raptor Center.
Day 6
Hanover, just over the Connecticut River in New Hampshire, to visit Dartmouth College. An area with its many cultural sights and an Ivy League college.
Day 7
Four Columns Inn is set in the tiny village of Newfane and offers side trips to the villages of Weston and Manchester. A visit to Hildene, the Georgian Revival mansion that was the home of Abraham Lincoln's descendents, is a trip into history. Shopping abounds in this area from galleries, clothes, to the Vermont County Store with everything you remember from way back in your youth.
Day 8
Middlebury also with its nationally known college, has the Morgan Horse Farm and Robert Frost Trail. Accommodations at the Shelburne Inn on the Lake Champlain grounds of the Webb Estate.
Day 9
Leave from the Burlington International Airport to return home.
